What is IC Markets (IC)?
IC Markets (now officially shortened to IC) is a forex and CFD provider. Its Help Centre says it was set up to offer fair and transparent forex trading to active traders and to bring tools once limited to professionals to retail clients. This FAQ set is based on the icmarkets-global.com (Global) Help Centre; see “Which company entity operates IC Markets Global?” for the service entity.

When was IC Markets founded and where is it based?
The Chinese version of the Help Centre describes IC as an Australian forex broker founded in 2007. That is the brand’s origin; it does not mean Global accounts are serviced or regulated by an Australian entity. The regulator named in the Global Help Centre is the Seychelles FSA—see the regulation and entity questions.

Who owns IC Markets?
The Help Centre says IC is privately owned, that its management team has more than 20 years of experience in derivative products, and that its founders played a key role in building one of the world’s largest CFD providers. It does not name individual shareholders or describe the ownership structure.

Which company entity operates IC Markets Global?
According to IC’s official privacy policy (FSA version), IC Markets (SC) is the trading name of Raw Trading Ltd Seychelles, with its office at HIS Building, Providence, Mahe, Seychelles, holding licence SD018 from the Financial Services Authority of Seychelles (FSA). The Global Help Centre itself only says IC is regulated by the FSA and does not name the entity, so rely on the client agreement you accept at account opening for the contracting company.

How is IC Markets Global different from the Australian and EU entities?
The IC group serves clients through different legal entities depending on region. The regulator named in the Global Help Centre is the Seychelles FSA; the Australian entity is regulated by ASIC and the EU entity by CySEC. They are separate entities with different licences and client-protection arrangements, so one entity’s protections should not be assumed to apply to a Global account. The Chinese Help Centre question “What is the regulatory difference between IC (AU) and IC?” has an empty answer, so we draw no conclusion from it—rely on your client agreement.

How can I confirm which regulated entity applies to my account?
The Chinese Help Centre lists “How do I know which regulation applies to my account?” but its answer is empty. We suggest checking the contracting company named in the client agreement and terms you accepted, your account-opening confirmation email and your Client Area, and, if still unsure, confirming in writing with IC via [email protected] or live chat before depositing. (This is 27CC’s own guidance, not an official statement.)

What is IC Markets’ client fund segregation policy?
Segregation means client money is kept apart from the company’s own money. The Help Centre says IC holds client funds in segregated client money accounts, separate from company funds, spread across several top-rated international banks. Segregation is a custody arrangement; it does not protect against trading losses, and the Help Centre gives no further detail such as trust arrangements.

What happens to my funds if IC Markets becomes insolvent?
The Help Centre says client money is held separately from company funds in segregated accounts at top international banks; clients with a net credit balance can be paid from those accounts and from IC’s other available funds if the company is wound up insolvent, and it says the company’s capital is well above requirements. This is IC’s own statement; the Help Centre does not mention an external compensation fund.

Does IC Markets Global offer an investor compensation scheme or deposit insurance?
As of this check (2026-11-05), the client-money answers in the Global Help Centre cover segregation and company capital only and do not mention an investor compensation scheme or deposit insurance. Do not assume protections that apply to other entities (such as the Australian or EU ones) apply to a Global account; check your client agreement and confirm with IC if in doubt.

Does IC Markets offer negative balance protection?
The Global Help Centre does not clearly promise negative balance protection. It warns that weekend or holiday gaps and thin liquidity can cause stop-outs and negative equity, and that clients who lose more than their balance bear the consequences. The Chinese version adds that clients can contact the client relations team ([email protected]) for help with a negative balance, which is not a promise of automatic write-off.

Can I lose more than my balance trading CFDs with IC Markets?
Yes. Leveraged positions can exceed your balance, and fast or gapping markets can cause losses larger than the balance. The Help Centre states the margin call level is 100% and the stop-out level is 50%, but positions are closed at the next available price, so the margin level can fall below 50% at the time of closing, and IC cannot guarantee your account will not go negative.
